Commercial vehicles are becoming increasingly complex and fleet operations of all sizes must keep pace if they are to continue to performance maintenance functions in-house, especially when it comes to electrical and electronic diagnostics. No easy task — especially for small and medium-sized fleets.
Small- and mid-sized fleet operations often have the same maintenance needs as do large fleets, but with far fewer resources at their disposal. As a result, they have to make do with less since they often cannot afford the equipment, tooling and specialized labor which large fleets can.
Example: a large fleet operation often will have a dedicated technician who performs electrical diagnostics. A small or mid-size fleet, on the other hand, may find it difficult to justify a dedicated technician for this purpose, so the fleet manager must make some important decisions. Outsource everything? Acquire small, simple tools that might reduce how frequently a third-party maintenance provider must be used? What are the tools a small-to-mid-size fleet should have on hand to accomplish this?
During this session our panel will discuss what skills technicians should possess to be valuable to the small-to-mid-size fleet owner when it comes to electrical diagnostics. We’ll also cover preventive measures to follow to reduce the number of electrical issues experienced.
This session will also describe technological advances that can make fleet management easier and more efficient, as well as cover how future electrical designs will impact fleet operations. We’ll cover how diagnostic strategies work for large fleets today and how they must evolve in the future to help fleets of all sizes
